Jenny Hamley, 40, husband Freddy, 38, and children Constance, nine, and Jemma , seven, have lived in their four bedroom semi-detached house in Horsham, West Sussex, since 2011. What they did The couple wanted to convert their loft into a bedroom and their builder told them that they could also create space for an ensuite bath by adapting the ceiling space above the kitchen. The work took 12 weeks and the whole house had tobe reinforced with steel beams to carry the weight of the conversion.
‘We had to move out while the work was done, and the first floor decor was ruined, but the disruption was worth it when we saw how spacious andlight the new room would be,’ says Jenny. Choosing the scheme in the bathroom the couple teamed traditional ware with a frameless shower enclosure that shows off the good quality wall tiles. For the bedroom itself, Jenny wanted a pale backdrop, but added pink and green with wallpaper and fabric.
The metal bed frame was passed on to Jenny by her parents and, apart from buying a made-to-measure TV unit, she searched junk shops for furniture to recondition. ‘I love the vintage look, so I enjoyed shopping around’, Jenny smiles.
